How we look after our shared environment

Ride Clean was founded with sustainability at the heart of its mission and operations. Through our work we contribute to 3 of the SDGs: good health and well-being, sustainable cities and communities and climate action. In this blog post we want to take you through how we form part of the Circular Economy through our reuse, repair, recycle, maintain approach.

Ride Clean joins Positively Putney during the Ride 100 weekend

Each year the capital hosts Prudential Ride 100 in August, a weekend dedicated to all things cycling with races and road closures catering to all levels and experience levels from the FreeCycle to the London-Surrey Classic, there is something for everyone.

The FreeCycle is a an opportunity to showcase central London on traffic free roads, an ideal opportunity for families to cycle together and enjoy the capital away from congestion and pollution. The following day starts early for those taking on the full 100 miles which uses much of the same route as the road race the professionals used during the 2012 Olympic Games, there are also shorter routes of 46 and 19 miles for those wanting something shorter, not to mention the Brompton Races! Finally the professional peloton take on the one day London-Surrey Classic. It really is an annual cycling expo!

This year Ride Clean was out in force along the main race route a day before the action in Putney in conjunction with Positively Putney and The Dynamo Cafe. Providing our usual Cleaning and maintenance services. This little video shows us in action and if you have a business in Putney and would like to bring our services to your office then please do get in touch.

Blue Patch Awards 2019

The mission of Ride Clean is to enable more people to ride bikes more often, we have four key pillars that we have built the company from, one of which, sustainability. The bicycle has often been hailed at the most democratic mode of transport and it certainly helped to emancipate women in the 19th century as well as mobilising all sectors of society, providing independence.

Caring for your machine not only saves you money as you prolong the life of the components, but it will also reduce the waste and the impact on the wider environment. This is at the core of what we are providing for our customers, so they can enjoy the myriad of benefits that riding a bike can give you and wider environment.

From day one we have taken steps to consider our supply chain and operations to align with our mission. We use Cargo Bikes to travel to locations, all our rags are recycled from textile banks - sorted and dispatched in the UK, our cleaning products are sent to us in a concentrate form - reducing plastic used to send them and the transport fuel used. We support The Bike Project by donating a £1/clean to help them with their mission.

This is just a flavour what we are doing behind the scenes and as a result of this we were delighted to be recognised by Blue Patch as a finalist in the 2019 awards in the New Business category.

100 Women in Cycling 2019 with Cycling UK

Our Founder Katy was nominated as one of the 100 Women in Cycling 2019, where Cycling UK recognise women across the UK who have influenced women in cycling. Such a range of inspiring women who have travelled across continents and countries on self-supported races to those that have set up local rides and supported women of all ages, cultures and backgrounds to take to two wheels.

TV and radio presenter, Angellica Bell gave us an account of how she overcame her fears to get on a bike after never learning as a child, and within eight weeks of learning was taking on the challenge of ‘Tour de Celeb’ which followed a stage of the Tour de France. Impressive stuff and proving you are never too old to start. We were hosted at the Palace of Westminster for the awards ceremony. A little different from our usual ‘office’!

Where it all started

Time flies when you are having fun, that’s what they say… Well the last 18 months have certainly flown past. Back when it was just one person with an idea, things have grown and we are looking set to new additions in the next month.

As a founding member of Escape the City, our founder Katy Miller had ideas bubbling of starting a business for quite a while, it was through a combination of circumstances and timing, Ride Clean was born. Below is a link to the post by Escape the City of the transition phase from 9-5 to entrepreneurship.
